Describe your BYU experience

It wasn’t until after graduation that I felt comfortable coming out. I guess the Lord was telling me it wasn’t quite the right time yet. But in July while on a performance tour with a choir from BYU-Idaho I had a very powerful prompting that it was time to stop hiding this part of myself. I slowly started to come out with my family and close friends, and in October I came out publicly. I couldn’t hold back the tears as hundreds of messages of love and acceptance poured in. I had members, nonmembers, bishops, high councilmen, and even converts I had baptized on my mission reach out to me in support and love. It was an incredible testimony to me of God’s love for me. Honestly, I haven’t had even the slightest bit of hate directed towards me since coming out publicly.

What advice or wisdom would you share with a current LGBTQ+ BYU student?

If I had one thing to tell my fellow LGBTQ+ LDS friends it would be that God will love you no matter what choices you make, and no matter what your life turns out to become. It doesn’t matter what ‘mistakes’ you make or how many times you ‘mess up’ he will ALWAYS be there for YOU no matter what! He loves you more that you can imagine, and he is there to carry you through hard times. Lots of love, friends!
